Happy New Year!!

Happy Happy New Year!! This is going to be a great new year and decade.

This New Year, New Decade blog is a bit different from other ones. It won’t be about false promises and false hopes that everything in life will change, be amazing and easy from here on out. However, it is about starting from today, starting from where you are in this moment.

There is a saying that everyday is a new beginning and a chance to start again. Every morning we are born again, what we do today matters most.

Therefore through this lens, everyday is like New Years Day or January 1st, 2020, the start of a new decade. Today is what matters most. No matter what has happened in your life or is currently happening, every morning we can interrupt the cycle and start again. This means cultivating more presence, more stillness and awareness of how you want to feel and the reality of your life everyday. If you are in recovery, everyday is a recovery day. In this lens, we wouldn’t say there are relapses, there are pro-lapses.

These pro-lapses can be many different things. It doesn’t only refer to using drugs or alcohol or relapsing after having been sober for awhile. It also means not relapsing into old patterns of self destructive thought patterns and behaviors.

This can be being surrounded by toxic people, in destructive or abusive relationships, not fulfilling our potential in our work, not fulfilling our potential in our education. When we take the perspective that everyday we are born again, it means that everyday we are aware of all and any destructive patterns or cycles that are possible or we have in the past gotten into, and we break free from them or don’t get into them at all.

Addiction isn’t only about the drugs or alcohol you abuse or used to abuse. It’s also about negative or toxic environments, jobs, relationships, health patterns and other negative aspects that hurt us. Being born again everyday means we pay attention everyday, like it’s New Years Day everyday and pay attention to what we want for ourselves.

The more you pay attention to what you want and redirect your focus to creating and building the positive, the better and better you will feel. You will be less likely to relapse into old destructive cycles or patterns.

So here’s to a New Year, New Decade and New Positive Patterns in your life!!
