Staying Open Every Moment

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

As a continuation from yesterday we are going to discuss the holidays and feeling happy and supported no matter what is going on!

The holidays can be a mixed time no matter whether you are sober or using drugs or alcohol… whether you are a family member of someone who is using substances or you yourself are using. It’s a time where a lot of discomfort can come up, as well as different memories and emotions.

Because of painful memories, triggers, pressure, and other things you may be experiencing… the holidays can be a trigger for wanting to use substances, close down, and tune out. But when you do this, you are closing yourself off to the possibilities of what may or could happen in your life. You are saying you already know what could happen and are clinging or holding on to the past or what you have already experienced that is likely painful.

During this holiday season, try to stay open!

Be present and aware of each moment passing! Each holiday is different from the last one, nothing is ever exactly the same. Everyday has unique aspects of it- so pay attention to the wonder of it!

When we tune out, close down, shut down, or whatever… we are missing out on our lives! We are missing out on potentially awesome emotions and experiences we can experience.

Stay open, stay present, and experience the wonder and uniqueness of each day, and each holiday. No two holidays are the same, they can’t be. So try to stay open to the beautiful things you could potentially experience during this time of year.

If you need help or support with this, we are here for you! We are here to help you learn how to stay open and live in the present moment no matter what is going on. You can reach us at 1-833-8Growth.
