Therapeutic modalities at Silver Lining Recovery are the specific, evidence based approaches your clinician draws on across every outpatient level of care, from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR to Internal Family Systems and TMS. No single approach suits everyone, so most people receive a combination matched to what they are actually working through.
10, matched during assessment
Outpatient only, no overnight stay
Individual sessions and skills based groups
All outpatient levels of care
No single therapy suits everyone, so treatment is not built around one method. During your initial assessment, a clinician asks what you are working through and recommends a combination of approaches, then adjusts that mix as treatment progresses.
Most people receive more than one modality at a time. A skills based group such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Dialectical Behavior Therapy is commonly paired with individual sessions and, where trauma is part of the picture, an approach such as EMDR. Every combination is delivered inside our outpatient levels of care, never as an overnight or residential stay.
Six approaches get a card above, but they are not the whole list. Individual therapy and group therapy run through every level of care, meditation therapy supports stress and craving management, Internal Family Systems is often shortened to IFS, and an optional faith-based track runs alongside the same clinical programming. Where a mental health condition and substance use are co-occurring, approaches are combined rather than chosen. The program is accredited by The Joint Commission for PHP and IOP.
Your clinician recommends an initial combination of approaches after hearing what you are dealing with, then adjusts it as treatment progresses.
Most people receive a combination: a skills based group, individual sessions, and a trauma-focused approach where trauma is part of the picture.
These approaches run inside PHP, IOP, and standard outpatient programs, all delivered without an overnight stay.
You do not need to choose. A clinician will ask what you are working on and explain which approaches they would recommend and why.
Each is matched to what you are working on rather than applied on its own.
A structured, evidence based treatment that helps you identify and change the thought patterns driving anxiety, depression, and substance use. Sessions are structured and time limited, typically 8 to 20 sessions, so progress is easy to track.
A skills based approach built around four modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation. It pairs acceptance with skill building rather than confrontation.
Uses guided eye movements and bilateral stimulation to help you process traumatic memories that were stored without proper context, so the mind can complete the processing trauma interrupted.
A non-invasive, medication-free treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate mood related brain regions, for depression that has not improved with medication or therapy alone.
A SAMHSA-recognized model that treats the different parts of yourself, protective, reactive, and wounded, as members of an internal family rather than symptoms to eliminate, building a relationship with each from self-compassion.
A framework, not a single technique, applied across the whole program. It asks what happened to you rather than what is wrong with you, and works to avoid re-traumatization at every step.
Most virtual outpatient programs are therapy only and send anything medical elsewhere. Ours is run by the same physicians, nurses and clinicians as the Huntington Beach program, over a secure HIPAA-compliant platform.
Which level of care your plan covers depends on your specific benefits and medical necessity. Verification is free, takes about two minutes, and carries no obligation to enroll.

A clinician asks what you are working through, including any trauma, mood, or substance use concerns.
Approaches are recommended based on what came up in assessment, not assigned from a fixed protocol.
Most plans combine a skills based group such as CBT or DBT with one to one sessions with your primary clinician.
Your combination of approaches is revisited and adjusted over time as you move through your level of care.

| Approach | Format | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Cognitive Behavioral Therapy | Group and individual | Changing the thought patterns that keep symptoms going |
| Dialectical Behavior Therapy | Group and individual | Distress tolerance and emotion regulation when feelings overwhelm |
| EMDR | Individual, eight stages | Processing specific traumatic memories that still carry a charge |
| Trauma-Informed Therapy | The whole program | The framework every session operates in, so care does not re-traumatize |
| Internal Family Systems | Individual | Working with the conflicting parts of yourself that trauma created |
| TMS Therapy | In clinic, alongside your program | Depression that has not responded to medication and therapy |
| Individual Therapy | One-on-one, every level | The private work that group cannot do, with your own clinician |
| Group Therapy | Groups capped at eight | Practicing skills with people doing the same work, in a small room |
| Meditation Therapy | Alongside clinical sessions | Managing stress, cravings and the physical side of anxiety |
| Faith-Based Track | Optional, alongside the same program | Clients who want their faith included, with nothing lost by declining |

Treatment scales up or steps down without you leaving the program.
The most intensive outpatient level, with structured full-day programming several days a week and no overnight stay.
Group therapy, individual sessions, and psychiatry visits, several hours a week around work or school.
The same core treatment as in-person IOP delivered by telehealth, for geographic flexibility.
Weekly therapy and occasional medication checks for people who need the least restrictive level of care.
"Silver Lining is a great place for mental health and substance use disorder treatment. I’ve been here for both. Every single person from staff to clinicians to ownership all genuinely care and make the time to show they care. Programming is thoughtful, informative, and very engaging. There is much more thought into treating the root cause than the symptom."
"The support and real care they give is unmatched. I can say without any doubt that the people that make up this community have a calling to serve and support those of us trying to heal and find a new way of life. Today I’m over five months clean, I have a career that feeds my energy, and a community of people that help me stay accountable."
"Silver Lining Recovery is a fantastic program for anyone seeking treatment for drug and/or alcohol abuse. Barmak and his staff were a delight to work with. Highly recommended."
Your clinician matches approaches to what you are working on rather than applying a fixed protocol. Most people get a combination: a skills based group such as CBT or DBT, individual sessions, and a trauma focused approach such as EMDR where trauma is part of the picture.
CBT focuses on identifying and changing the thought patterns that drive symptoms. DBT is skills based and focuses on tolerating distress, regulating emotion, and managing relationships. Many people receive both, in group and individually.
Yes. EMDR is delivered individually and is available across our outpatient programs. Whether it fits your situation is a clinical decision made with your therapist during assessment.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a non-invasive, medication-free treatment for depression that has not responded to medication and therapy. It is delivered in clinic alongside your outpatient program.
No. All of these approaches are delivered on an outpatient basis, across PHP, IOP, Evening IOP, standard outpatient, and Virtual IOP. None involve an overnight or residential stay.
