When addiction and a mental health condition show up together, treating one and hoping the other settles down rarely works. At Silver Lining Recovery in Huntington Beach, you get both treated at once, by one clinical team, on a schedule built around your job, your classes, or your family.
We’re outpatient only. You live at home, keep your routine, and come to us for structured clinical care.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment in Huntington Beach at a glance:
- Both conditions, one plan. Your substance use and your mental health are treated together by the same team, so your care doesn’t pull in two directions.
- Three levels of outpatient care. PHP runs 25 to 30 hours a week, IOP runs 9 to 15, and Outpatient steps you down as you stabilize.
- Built for people who can’t pause life. Evening IOP runs Monday through Friday, 6 pm to 9 pm, and Virtual IOP serves clients anywhere in California.
- Insurance is verified, never assumed. We work with most major providers, and we confirm your specific benefits before you commit to anything.
- Detox is by referral. We don’t provide detox on-site. If you need it first, we help you get connected and hold your place for the step down into PHP or IOP.

Levels of Care for Dual Diagnosis
Structure is what makes outpatient work. You get the clinical intensity your situation calls for, then step down as things steady, without moving out of your house.
Program | Schedule as posted | Weekly hours | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
Partial Hospitalization (PHP) | Mon to Fri, day or evening | 25 to 30 hours | Early recovery, or higher clinical need without inpatient |
Intensive Outpatient (IOP) | Mon to Fri, 9 am to 12 pm | 9 to 15 hours | Adults who need real structure and want to keep working |
Evening IOP | Mon to Fri, 6 pm to 9 pm | Same clinical model as day IOP | Working professionals, students, parents |
Virtual IOP | Mon to Fri, 7 am to 9 am | Same structured programming as in-person IOP | Clients anywhere in California, or with travel limits |
Outpatient (OP) | Reduced frequency | Steps down from IOP | Maintenance, relapse prevention, ongoing support |
Most IOP clients stay 30 to 90 days. PHP runs several weeks to several months, depending on what you need and how things progress.

Who Dual Diagnosis Treatment is For
We work with adults whose substance use and mental health feed each other. Alcohol, opioids, or stimulants alongside anxiety, depression, PTSD, or bipolar disorder is the pattern we see most.
Pairings we treat
- Anxiety and alcohol, where drinking becomes the way you manage panic or constant worry
- PTSD and opioid use, where trauma drives both the use and the avoidance
- Depression and alcohol, where low mood and heavy drinking hold each other in place
- Bipolar disorder and stimulants, where stimulants sharpen mood swings and impulsivity
- Stimulant use with anxiety or ADHD, bringing high arousal, poor sleep, and impulsive decisions
Our programs fit people who
- Work full time and need care that doesn’t cost them the job
- Are in school and need scheduling that bends around classes
- Are parents or caregivers who can’t relocate for treatment
- Are veterans or active military looking for trauma-aware outpatient care
Is outpatient the right starting point?
Outpatient care asks something of you: that you’re medically stable enough to live at home while you do the work. Some situations need a higher level of care first, and we’ll tell you straight if yours is one of them.
Situation | Right starting point |
|---|---|
Medically stable, living at home, able to attend sessions | Outpatient care at PHP, IOP, or Evening IOP |
Unstable withdrawal, including severe tremors, seizures, or dehydration | Medically supervised detox first, by referral, then step down to us |
Active suicidal thoughts, a plan, or recent self-harm | Immediate crisis or inpatient care before outpatient |
Acute psychosis or severe psychiatric instability | Inpatient psychiatric stabilization first |
Recent overdose or serious medical complications | Medical care first, then outpatient when cleared |
Stable but slipping after a higher level of care | Step-down into IOP or OP |
If detox or inpatient care comes first, we help you get connected and coordinate the handoff so you’re not starting over when you come to us.

How Integrated Care Works Here
One team holds your whole picture. Your therapist and the psychiatric side of your care work from the same plan, so your medication and your therapy goals line up instead of contradicting each other.
Treating both conditions together is the approach clinicians recommend for co-occurring disorders. Splitting them across two providers is where people usually fall through the gaps.
Your plan gets built with you, and we review it with you as you go.
Therapies And Approaches
Each of these is part of how we treat co-occurring conditions, not a menu you pick from alone. Your clinical team recommends what fits your situation.
What to Expect When You Start
- A confidential phone call. We collect the basics, talk through what’s going on, and start your benefits check. Have your photo ID, insurance card, and current medication list handy.
- A comprehensive intake assessment. We review your medical, psychiatric, and substance use history, along with your living situation and support system. Bring prior records if you have them, since it speeds everything up.
- A treatment plan built with you. Our clinical team brings its findings back to you and you decide together on level of care, therapy goals, and medication needs. You’re welcome to bring a support person.
- Orientation and your first sessions. You get oriented to the program, then start group and individual sessions, with medication management if it’s part of your plan. Day, evening, and virtual options are all on the table.
- An early clinical review. A clinician-led review adjusts your plan and any medications once we’ve seen how the first stretch goes.
If medically supervised detox turns out to be the right first step, we don’t provide it on-site. We help you get connected to a detox provider and coordinate your step down into PHP or IOP afterward.
Insurance & Payment
We work with most major insurance providers, and the site’s insurance strip carries Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Health Net, and TRICARE.
Coverage depends on your specific plan, so we verify your benefits before anything starts. We’ll tell you what your plan actually covers rather than guessing at it.
Private-pay and flexible payment options are available. Our admissions team walks you through what applies to your situation.
